HODDLESDEN'S Jake Loftus must be sick of the sight of young Danyal Hussein after being involved in 3 losing frames against the Potters B player in the Danny Hogan Memorial Cup match. It was a good start for Hoddlesden, Steve Hill winning the opener against Shabaz Ditta on the black but Potters captain Darren Johnson hit back immediately against Joe Roebuck. It was 2-1 Hoddlesden when Hill and Steve Eastham won a close pairs against Johnson and Asaf Khan. Jim Ollerton was in superb form as he limited Khan to a single point in frame 4 but Potters came back with a win for Carl Boothman. The last pairs saw Loftus meet Hussein for the first time as he and partner Ollerton went down to Hussein and Boothman. Loftus and Hussein stayed at the table and it was the Potters man who controlled the frame from start to finish. That made it 4-3 Potters and put them on the verge of the quarter finals. Hoddlesden captain Dave Fenwick took to the table and was in complete control to level the match and force a sudden death play off. It was a rerun of frame 7 as Loftus and Hussein faced off again. Once again it was Hussein who came out on top to give his side a home tie against Longshaw in the quarters.

It was a similar story up at Fox & Hounds where the home team found themselves trailing 4-2 against second division Punch. Lee Entwistle continued his improvement taking the opener for Fox before Paul Davis Junior levelled it. Davis and Kane Suddick gave Punch the lead beating Entwistle and partner Simon Ashe before Scott Morris made it 2-2. Rob Rice restored the Punch lead and stayed at the table with partner Ian Harle to make it 4-2 and on the brink of victory. It was that man Simon Ashe again who beat Suddick to make it 4-3 and then Fox skipper Derek Haworth overcame Harle to force the decider. It was Scott Morris for Fox against Punch captain Kane Suddick and it was Morris who emerged victorious to give Fox a home quarter final against Potters A who came through 5-3 against Darwen Golf Club

Elsewhere Feniscowles A eased past Rishton Golf to book a quarter final date with second division Hollins Grove. Chris Philiben got the Golfers off to a good start beating Andy Rourke but the ever consistent Andy Livesey hit back straight away for Fenny. Baz Holden and Ammi Dippolito restored the Feniscowles lead in the pairs and Fenny skipper Dippolito was in dominant form against Liam Masterman to make it 3-1. Rishton took the next, Chris Wolfenden proving too much for Eric Knowles and the match was level when Rishton skipper Eric Whittle and Ron Hutchinson pipped Livesey and Steve Williams in the last doubles. Whittle stayed at the table but could do nothing against some top quality stuff from Holden. It was a similar story in the last, Williams dominating from start to finish to beat Hutchinson. They are joined in the quarters by Feniscowles B who came away from Wilpshire 5-0 victors over the B team.
