BURNLEY Tennis Club Ladies have won the Ralph Bint County Plate for the first time in 15 years after beating Moreland Tennis club in the final.

After coming through an extremely tough semi-final against a Virgin Active team featuring three current county players, the Burnley team expected another tough test in the final.

It was a strong and experienced Burnley team that made the trip to Poulton-le-Fylde featuring two players from the cup winning team of 2000.

The format was the best of nine doubles matches and Burnley went into the third and final round of games leading the match 4-2, with only one win needed to lift the trophy.

Burnley were in confident mood as it was their first pair up against Moreland’s third pair and they proved to be just too strong - much to the delight of team-mates and travelling supporters.

It was a well-deserved win for Burnley who have worked hard over summer and had to come through a number of high level games. Winning the cup was the icing on the cake for the Ladies who clinched runner-up spot in Division One of the AEGON National Club League, losing out by just two points Next season, Burnley Ladies are looking to go one better and win the National Club League and County Cup - as well as the East Lancs League.

The club is currently looking for new players to add strength and depth to their squads.

So if there are any players who either want to start playing competitive tennis - both in singles and doubles - or fancy a new club or challenge then they should get in touch.
