JORDAN Darragh has clinched a third English kick boxing title - now he has set his sights on a hat-trick of British belts.

The 14-year-old from Osbaldeston won the English International Combat Organisation (ICO) u50kg crown after a points victory over Tommy Purdy.

Jordan, who has recently switched to Fight Rite Kickboxing Club in Rishton, travelled 300 miles down to Hastings for the title bout that was on the HKA Fight Night 5 bill - but it proved to be a journey well worth making.

Now the talented teenager is preparing for a busy November that will include competing in the ISKA Five Nations in Wales before having a shot at the British ICO title in Suffolk later in the month.

And he is looking forward to trying to add to his growing collection of belts having got the better of Purdy who is a member of Mamba MA in Ipswich.

In the opening round, Jordan came out very strong, hitting Purdy with a front kick to the head and several ‘round house’ kicks to the body. His pace overwhelmed his rival as he easily won the first round.

The second and third rounds were a similar story, lots a fast hard kicks and strong boxing combos.

After such a blistering start, Jordan began to tire in the final two rounds but he had already put enough in to win on a majority decision and clinch the title.

“I was under a bit of pressure to beat Tommy because I wanted to fight for the British title next month,” said Jordan who has been kick boxing for less than three years. “It was a very tough contest but I thought the fight went very well. I tried to keep busy throughout the five rounds and thought I was always ahead.

“I was starting to get tired after putting so much into the earlier rounds but I think I had them as well and thankfully I got a majority points decision.”

He added: “It was a long way to go for a fight but I’m glad I went down there and I am delighted to have won another English title.”

Jordan worked under Jason Curtis at Kokoro Kick Boxing in Accrington but now trains under Gary Smith at Fight Rite where he trains twice a week.

He has 22 wins and six defeats from his 28 bouts.

He thanked his sponsors, Sandee Worldwide LTD Fight Rite Kickboxing Rishton and also paid special thanks to Tracy and Billy Battrick at Fit to Fight in Accrington.
