MIKEY Worswick has set his sights on being world number one after winning his 14th major belt.

The talented 23-year-old Accrington kick boxer successfully defended his ISKA Commonwealth and British titles with a fourth round stoppage of the durable Sean Law from Barnsley at Audley Sports Centre.

Worswick, who is a member of the Kokoro gym, has now won seven British belts, two Commonwealth titles and five intercontinental crowns. But he wants his next one to be a world title.

“I want a shot at the world title now and I want to be considered the best in the world by this time next year,” said the former Rhyddings High School pupil.

“It was a very tough fight, probably the hardest of my career but I have never been in better form.”

Law arrived with a reputation of being able to last the distance and nearly did until Worswick made the breakthrough in the fourth round.

“He took all my best shots and kept coming back for more,” said Worswick, who is coached by Jason Curtis. “But I caught him with a good combination in the fourth and that knocked the stuffing out of him.

“I’ve shown how good I am so now I want that World title belt.”
