BLACKBURN came up short again as they slipped to a fourth defeat in five outings since promotion to North One West.

It has been a difficult start to the season for Dino Radice’s side but he always knew the size of the task ahead.

While there were positives to take out of the game, Burn are understandably low on confidence at the moment and indecision and players not backing themselves was evident.

Leon Fifield had an early shot at a penalty which was unsuccessful so it was Wilmslow who were first on the scoreboard with a converted try on five minutes.

The visitors extended their lead to 10-0 with a penalty before crossing for a second try on 15 minutes following a quickly taken tap penalty.

Fifield managed to narrow the gap slightly with an impressive penalty kick from 45 metres out and Burn improved and had more of the ball without really threatening the try line and they had to console themselves with another long range penalty from Fifield.

On the stroke of half time Wilmslow kicked a penalty to restore their 12 point advantage to lead 18-6 at the break.

The visitors crossed for a third try soon after the restart with the extras added.

Once again, the hosts got back in to the game and were pressuring the line resulting in a Wilmslow player being sent to the sin bin. However, Burn were unable to capitalise and instead Wilmslow managed to score their fourth try.

On 62 minutes Wilmslow were back down to 14 men after another sin bin following a deliberate knock on and this time Blackburn made the man advantage count when the ball was recycled and Ben Corless (pictured left) crashed over. Fifield was unable to add the extra points.

But Wilmslow crossed for a fifth try to make it 35-11at the final whistle.
