THERE was mixed joy for Colne Juniors FC teams on league and cup action at Holt House on Sunday.

While Colne FC Under 13s enjoyed a thrilling 4-3 win over Hyndburn Youth to get their season up and running, the under 15s’ hopes of a run in the cup ended before they began after they were knocked out by Fulledge Colts.

The younger of the two teams got their first win of the season at the second attempt in a free-flowing, high scoring encounter at the Colne venue.

Having opened their campaign with a 3-2 defeat against early Under 13s Green League leaders Blue Star Aces, Colne were determined to pick up that first victory.

After a cagey opening half, where Colne led 1-0 at the break, the floodgates opened in the second half with six goals flying in.

But despite two goals from Cody Richards and one from Callum Taylor for Hyndburn, the hosts managed to match them goal for goal to claim a narrow victory.

Blue Star Aces appear to be the team to beat and they made it three wins from three following a 13-4 win at Barrowford Celtic Black - with Jamie Heys and James Joseph both scoring four goals each.

Second-placed Todmorden Sports Club dropped their first points of the season following a thrilling 4-4 draw with Rossendale United.

Dale led 3-0 at the break before Tod stormed back to take a share of the spoils.

Mack Ashworth scored twice for the hosts with Lewis Burke and Jensen Smith also on target.

Diarmuid Pritchard led the fightback for Todmorden, scoring twice, with Ben Mulvaney-Johnson and Harry Hazeltine both scoring.

Elsewhere, Brierfield Celtic beat Pendle Forest Tornadoes 8-1 thanks to four goals from Usman Arshad and two each for Kai Blezard and Joshua Butterworth.

In the cup, Colne Under 15s found visiting Fulledge Colts Red, from two divisions above, just too hot to handle.

Despite a spirited performance, Fulledge ran out 9-0 winners with Sonny Bosworth, Louis Holding, Bailey Thompson and Declan Uttley all scoring two each while Jack Worthington completed the scoring.

Also in the cup, Darwen Spartans beat Langho Juniors 3-2. Connor Kelly scoring twice and Aiden Lofthouse also on target - while LFA U15s beat Huncoat United 5-2.

AFC Darwen’s Red League team also progressed to the next round after beating LFA U15s 3-2.

In an all-Yellow League clash, Lammack Juniors beat Mellor Juniors 3-0 while there were home wins for Mill Hill and Readstone United Under 15s.
