ONE of Burnley Football Club’s most popular players has been remembered by a local football league that is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

A trophy in memory of Billy Ingham, affectionately known as the Ginger Pele, was presented to the Burnley and District Sunday Football League by the Burnley Miners Welfare Club.

The club’s committee and members made the presentation to honour Ingham who was the Burnley Miners Vice President and served the club for many years.

“Our league committee, managers and players would like to thank the Burnley Miners Welfare Club for kindly sponsoring the new Premiership Trophy,” said League chairman John Pilling.

Treasurer Jeff Sumner also thanked all the leagues sponsors, Alderson & Horan Funeral Services, Burnley Miners Welfare Club, Charley Briggs and Fixings North West for their support in the league’s anniversary year.
