SAINT Joseph’s Ladies got their season off to a winning start with a 3-0 win over Great Harwood.

It was a flying start from the visitors against Great Harwood Rovers Ladies, who are a new addition to the Lancashire FA Women’s County League Division Two this season.

Lucie Abbot struck for St Joseph’s inside the first minute and they never looked back.

The Saints continued to pressure Great Harwood with two goals from last season’s top goal scorer Keara Booth to make it 3-0 at the break.

Great Harwood came out fighting in the second half and had a free-kick tipped over by Naomi Entwistle.

St Joseph’s, who are managed by Accrington Stanley striker Marcus Carver, continued to control the game though but a resilient defensive effort from Rovers meant the game ended in a 3-0 success for the Saints.

Elsewhere in the league Lancaster City Ladies were beaten 3-2 by Galgate Ladies and Blackpool Wren Rovers Ladies Reserves got the better of a 10-goal thriller with Bury Ladies, running out 7-3 winners.

In Division One Burnley FC Girls and Ladies development squad were 3-0 winners at Bolton Reserves.

St Joseph’s are next in action on September 27 when they travel to Bury FC Girls and Ladies.

Next week Accrington Girls and Ladies development play their first game at home to Blackpool Wren Rovers Ladies Reserves.
