SHOWJUMPER Sarah Lundy said she was 'proud and excited' at getting the chance to represent Great Britain for the first time.

The 25-year-old, from Rising Bridge, has been on the World Class Equine Pathways program with her horse Vegas since last year.

But she wasn't expecting a national call quite so soon due to the fact that Vegas is only seven-years-old.

"I went to the Allington International event in Grantham in May and we knew then there was a chance of being selected," she said.

"Vegas is very young for international level but we have really put the work in, we've travelled all over the country to try and get that experience and to impress.

"I couldn't believe it when I was told we'd been selected, it's a dream come true. I'm so proud and excited for the event.

"Horses don't usually compete internationally until they are about 10 so we've done really well."

A date and venue for the competition, which is for under-25s, is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to take place in Barbizon, France, or Bonheiden, Belgium, at the end of September or start of October.

Sarah, who is based at Croft Top Farm, has been with Vegas since the start.

"We've trained him from scratch," she said. "We've had him since he was four so we have a good understanding.

"He's about the only horse that fits me as I'm very tall so he's very good for me. It's a good relationship."

This is the first time Sarah has had the call to represent Great Britain, but most of her family will be unable to attend.

She said: "It's my first time to be selected and it's an incredible feeling. I've always wanted this and we have worked very hard for it.

"We've got a competition on at home at that time so unfortunately a lot of my family won't be able to attend, but I can't wait now."
