JORDAN Darragh, 14, showed tremendous grit and determination to win the WRSA English Junior Kickboxing title.

Darragh claimed the title at the Dansk Stadium in Walsall was the host to an international kickboxing event.

Fighters came from the length and breadth of the country, with some travelling from as far afield as France and Ireland to compete.

Representing the Kokoro Gym in Accrington, Jordan fought local favourite Callum Dunn of Saxon Gym in one of the main title fight contests of the evening.

When stepping in to the ring, Callum showed supreme confidence in the front of his big following but was shocked when Jordan came out fast.

The first two rounds were even but Jordan just couldn’t find his range.

The third, fourth and fifth rounds however were clearly Jordan’s.

He established his best boxing, landing some accurate body shots and a clear overhead left punch from the southpaw stance, followed up by a turning side kick to the face, dropping Callum to the canvas.

The competitors both fought on valiantly but the fight was announced as a majority decision to Jordan.

The Accrington fighter was clearly ecstatic with the win, the tears in his eyes showing just how much it meant to him.

Jordan is completely committed to his training and trains six days a week in the gym , followed by four running days in preparation for his fights.

The one thing any sports person needs is the will to succeed and Jordan certainly has that.

Next for Jordan is a prestige four-man prizefighter event to be held in Kent on September 6.

The other fighters are from London, Scotland and the Midlands and are among the very best junior fighters in Britain.

Jordan ihas many potential fights coming up in the diary this season.

He is currently sponsored by Sandee Thai boxing equipment but is always looking for further sponsorship to help him broaden his horizons and further his potential as well as his career.
