ALDER Grange pupils showed they had plenty of endurance at Rossendale’s second schools triathlon.

The day was a glorious success for Alder Grange with 12 students winning titles.

Eight pupils took part in the individual triathlon, completing the 200m swim, 3km bike ride and finishing with a 2400m run.

Individual crowns went to Year 10 Joshua Whitehead who also clocked the fastest bike and run of the day. Not to be out done by his older brother, Jack Whitehead won the Year 7 individual event too.

Matthew Mackay produced an outstanding performance, taking the Year 8 boys title. Year 10 Bobcat swimmer Thomas Mackay swam the fastest 200m in 2:06.

Participation was encouraged for all pupils and many performed as a team. Leon Banham, Max Haworth and David Goldswain swam, biked and ran their way to success in the Year 8 team triathlon.

The Year 9 girls’ team - Melissa Rose, Amelia Chadfield and Jess Irving - triumphed to gold in their outstanding performances too.

Other team members included Chloe Broughton, Phoebe Barker, Ben Payne, Wayne Stobbs and David Testa.

Vanessa Holland, PE Curriculum Leader at Alder Grange, said: “This is a great multi-disciplined event which saw over 100 pupils from different schools compete.

"The Alder Grange pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and performed with such determination.

"They are a credit to the school.”
