Burnley RUFC teamed up with the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides within the local area giving most girls a first go at Rugby Union. With he event held at Barden Atletic Track they were other activities going on and the numbers of girls running round being active was pleasing to see.
First up were the rainbows ( 77 Girls ) aged between 5 and 7 they enjoyed throwing and catching the ball, and fun game of scarecrow tig using the rugby ball, and then quick game of tag rugby.
Next up was the brownies (163 Girls ) 7 -10 year olds and with high numbers groups were split into 20 and these girls played tag rugby, got a game of bulldog showing great running with ball in two hands and some nice side stepping.
Guides (41 Girls) 10 -14 year olds finished the event off and these girls with a few done it at school but never attempted contact the Burnley coaches however gave them the first feel of tackling a person ad rounded the night off with a mini game and girls tackling really well.
So from a Rugby Union perspective this was a really enjoyable evening and thanks to the girls for having a real go at it and thank you Tricia Beesley, the Divional Commisioner, for allowing us to join in your girls event.
Also on the night with over 280 girls there it was great to have the support of Burnley U15 and U18 Girls Plyers - Willow Bell, Elona Bythell, Anya Richmond and Polly Bell - showing the girls that rugby could be the sport for you with all these developing really well in the sport.
As Community Coach " It was a really enjoyable evening with all giving it a real go and all would be more than welcome to continue if they ever fancy giving it another go, at Burnley RUFC Wednesday night or Sunday .Just give us a call 07988122186, one girl as already done so and the girls coaches Jason Bell and Dom Leck will be more than happy to get you involved in their team".
