GEORGE Durkin created history last night when he became the first player for Lowerhouse Cricket Club to score a 50 in an under 11 pairs cricket match.

He overtook Jack Simms’ previous record of 39 as a top score in 11s pairs cricket for the club, made in 2013.

George was playing for the u11(3) Koalas team in a victory over Nelson u11 in the Lancashire Junior League U11 Division Three.

George scored 55 not out in his allotted four over batting slot . He was partnered by Oliver Spendlove who was also not out.

His innings included hitting six boundaries off one over , five fours and a six which is another club junior record.

Team manager on the night Stan Heaton said: “ It was an excellent innings . The bowling was decent enough and all George’s shots were well timed and the correct shot to play.

“It was flawless, George is an under 10 who is in his first season playing hard ball cricket . He played under 9(2)s last season and began this season in the 11(4) Pandas and has made great progress.

“This may be an understatement but I think its time to move George up again.”
