Sports Report – 2014/15

Yr5/6 Girls Cricket Final

On a sunny day at Colne Cricket Club on Wednesday 11th June the Pendle Yr5/6 Girls Cricket Final came to a nail biting conclusion.

6 teams, Earby, Higham, Bradley, Walverden, Marsden and Sacred Heart had won through the preliminary rounds to contest this final.

Everybody played each other and after 15 games it was difficult to separate 3 teams – Earby, Bradley and Marsden.

Although the quality of fielding, batting and bowling from most teams was good, these 3 teams were exceptional, providing an exciting finish as they beat each other to keep each teams hopes of winning alive until a final count up of wickets taken. This highlighted the strength of these 3 teams.

All girls can be proud of the way they played. Well done to all teams.

Results:

Winners – Earby - 21 points – 25 wickets taken

2nd – Bradley – 21 points – 20 wickets taken

3rd – Marsden – 21 points – 17 wickets taken

4th – Sacred Heart – 13 points

5th – Walverden – 9 points

6th – Higham – 5 points

Many thanks to the boys from Fishermore for officiating as umpires on the day.

In spite of the weather the standard of cricket was really good and the players were a credit to themselves and their schools in the way they conducted themselves.

Although fielding and bowling were difficult in the wet and slippy conditions many wickets were taken.

Whilst Earby won all their games the game between 2nd and 3rd was decided by only 5 runs with Marsden taking the credits.
