DAVE Walker won the annual Ted Tomlinson Trophy in a competition dominated by Rushton Street A players.

Held at Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket and Bowling Club on Saturday, Rushton players made up all four of the semi finalists - with Walker going on to beat team-mate Michael Beardmore in the final.

Defending champion Mick Burns of Rishton Con B tumbled at the first hurdle when he was knocked out by Dave Vickers of Coppice.

But after that it was Rushton who ran the show.

In the first semi final, Walker beat Peter Wellman 21-13 while Beardmore got the better of Stewart Gall, winning 21-17.

Earlier, Walker reached the last four after beating Globe A’s Brian Ashworth 21-14 while Beardmore booked his place in the semi finals with a win over yet another Rushton St A player, this time Graham Wood, winning 21-13.

In the final itself, the early stages were nip-and-tuck, neither player establishing a meaningful lead as the score was tied at six across. Walker pulled away to lead 11-7, but Beardmore levelled again at 11 across. Beardmore took the lead at 15-14, but Walker regained control to lead 18-5, allowing his opponent only one more chalk to run out a worthy winner in his debut season in the league.
