POTTING powerhouse Tony Greenwood delivered a master class to secure his place in the last four of the 2015 Fosters Golden Cue Small Table competition.

The Worsthorne Club ace coasted to a 3-0 victory over young gun Jamie Linguard and will face up and coming star Brad Southern in the semi-finals.

It was one-way traffic as former policeman Greenwood punished his young opponent with some spectacular potting and he could take some stopping now as he takes aim at the title.

It proved a much harder passage for Southern, though, who made it through following a five frame victory over Andy Harris in the last round.

The other semi-final tie promises to be another thrill a minute clash, with former champion Jimmy Waddington locking horns with Peter Doyle.

Waddington edged past Andy Bates, while Doyle is also in sparkling form ahead of his last four tie.

Meanwhile, Russel Large is the first man through to the semi-finals of the Large Table Competition.

Large produced a splendid break of 44 in the final frame to claim a 3-1 victory over Chris Ashton, from Colne Snooker Club.

In the other ties, Josh Foster (Broughton Road) faces Simon Blackwell (British Rail) tonight - while Dean Emmott, finalist in 2010, (Colne British Legion) was due to meet Dom Emery (Colne Snooker Club) last night.

In the last tie, Dan Paton (Rolls Royce) will go head to head with club mate Kevin Dowbiggin on Thursday.

The semi-finals will be staged on June 22 and 23.

Foster’s Golden Cue spokesman Neil McGovern said: “This year’s competition has once again produced some thrilling matches, and there’s some terrific ties to look forward to.

“Tonight’s tie, for example, between John Foster and Simon Blackwell is the one they all talking about.

“It should be a fantastic tie and another great showcase for the competition.”

McGovern added: “The local snooker scene is thriving at the moment, with some superb young players emerging.”

The Grand final will be staged at Ighten Leigh Social Club on July 6 at 7.30pm.
