IT may have been a step in to the unknown for Fulledge Colts Under 15s but the outcome was the same following another trophy-laden season.

The Colts set themselves new challenges for the season - both home and abroad - and they passed with flying colours.

Having enjoyed success in the Accrington and District Junior Football League, Fulledge opted to enter the Bolton and Bury District Football League - and promptly won the league and cup double without losing a game.

And on their now annual end of season overseas adventure, Fulledge won the Amsterdam Cup - their second successive success on foreign soil - having won the JVC Tournament in Eindhoven the previous season.

Add winning the East Lancashire Football Alliance title in their first season in that league and Fulledge have every right to feel proud of their achievements.

Manager Alex Norwood was obviously delighted with his team’s performance - not just their on-the-field heroics but off-the-field conduct.

“The challenges that have been presented to the players this season have provided plenty of learning opportunities and they have applied themselves brilliantly,” said Norwood. “Their conduct, as well as the quality of performances they have delivered, is not only a source of pride to myself and Paul Dugdale as coaches, but everyone connected with the club.”

In the Bolton and Bury League, Fulledge finished with a record of 20 wins and two draws from their 22 league games, scoring 141 goals, conceding just eight and keeping 17 clean sheets.

And they wrapped up their campaign in style, beating Horwich RMI 8-0.

Fulledge then completed the double by beating Pennington Predators 6-1 in the BBDFL Chairman’s Cup final at Bolton Wanderers Academy.

And their ‘domestic’ dominance also included winning an East Lancashire Football Alliance title at the first attempt, wrapping up the season with an 8-2 win over Barnoldswick Town.

The Colts then travelled to Holland to enter the Amsterdam Cup over the Bank Holiday weekend and returned as champions.

The 24-strong squad of players was split into two teams, Blues and Whites, who were placed in different pools of the competition and they ended up playing each other in the semi finals.

The Blue team were drawn in a group with Shiners FC (England) and Dutch trio Ewijk, Rkvv DSS and R.K.S.V. D. C.G.

The Whites team were drawn in a group alongside home team Olympia Haarlem (Holland), V.O.C. (Belgium), De Held (Holland) and R.K.S.V. C2 (Holland).

The Blues progressed after winning two and drawing two of their group matches while the Whites topped their group after winning all four matches.

Both teams boasted a 100 per cent win record on the second day - each securing a 1-0 win over a talented Ross County Academy team along the way - before they were drawn together in the semi-final.

As expected, it was a tight affair and a single goal from Ben Ashton guided the Whites to the final.

But the Blues finished on a high taking third place with an 8-0 victory in the play-offs against FC Medemblik.

They then cheered on their team-mates in the final as the Whites beat R.K.S.V. D.C.G. 3-0 - with a Luke Cassidy goal from the halfway line befitting of the occasion.

Fulledge’s football certainly caught the eye as Norwood explained.

“A Dutch coach described our play as ‘Un-British’, which I think he meant as a positive,” he said. “The boys have been a credit to themselves, their families and club and we are extremely proud of the progress they have made this season.”

“These trips do so much for all aspects of the players’ development and it’s’ great for them to show they can compete with so many excellent teams, particularly the Academy sides.”
