Wrennall Under 14s Cup final

Burnley Schoolboys 3 Chorley Schoolboys 1

BURNLEY came from a goal down to beat Chorley to win the Wrennall Cup on a memorable afternoon at Turf Moor.

Both sides looked nervous as they took to the big stage at the home of Burnley FC and it was the boys in Claret and Blue who found themselves a goal down after Chorley opened the scoring with a wonderful long range effort from James Gibson.

It was a lead Chorley held until the break and they should have gone further ahead after the break when Burnley captain Jack Fletcher mis-timed a tackle in the area and the referee pointed to the spot.

However, the resulting spot kick was blazed over the crossbar by Leon O’Malley and the let off seemed to lift Burnley.

And so it proved as the Clarets turned the final on its head with three goals in eight minutes.

First Morgan Crowther drew the teams level in the 61st minute when he headed home a Harvey Macadam corner at the far post And just four minutes later he grabbed his second, rounding off a slick Clarets move slotting the ball home from a Harrison Yeoman pass.

And in the 69th minute, Macadam was the provider again, his wonderful corner was headed home by Fletcher which made up for the penalty he gave away earlier on in the half.

For Burnley, it was the perfect revenge over a Chorley side who had beaten them 3-1 in their league meeting.
