A STAR-studded FYLDE held on to the Gascon Trophybut only by a whisker as they beat East Lancashire 7-6.

Blackpool’s Simon Hallawell was in good form, a beautiful 72 break from Craig Steele’s short break off gave him the highest break of the day.

Blackburn’s Mick Bufton, making his first appearance in the event, was desperately unlucky against former pro Rob Valiant.

Mark Jennings continued his recent good run, coming from behind and clearing the colours to pink to beat the highly regarded Brett Noble.

After Fylde took the opening 2 frames it was Burnley’s Wayne Cotterill who got Lancashire back on track with a resounding win over Mick Eaves. Hallawell made it 3-1 before Clitheroe’s Marc Holmes reduced the deficit against Lee Healey.

Jennings levelled it before Valiant restored the lead only for Burnley’s Chris Catlow to even things again.

Jason Tart beat wily old campaigner Duncan McNally and Phil Watts beat Burnley’s Eric Catlow to put the seasiders two up with three to play.

But wins for Marc Riley and Russell Large levelled the match. However, in the deciding frame, Blackburn’s Gary Hampson got a massive kick and Fylde skipper Steve Mann got the chance to run out the colours and retain the trophy.
