FOUR more schools have booked their places in the SPAR Lancashire School Games in a range of sports.

Pupils from Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and St Augustine’s clinched wins in handball to seal their place at this year’s event which will take place in Blackpool in June.

Clitheroe Royal Grammar School were crowned Ribble Valley champions while St Augustine’s will represent Hyndburn and will now battle it out against others from across the county to be crowned Lancashire champions in handball.

Jane Johnson, who is the school games organiser for Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, said: “A huge congratulations to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and St Augustine’s RC High School for sealing a place at the county finals.

“The handball team from Clitheroe Royal Grammar snatched bronze for the Ribble Valley at the SPAR Lancashire School Games last year so we’re hoping they come back even bigger and better.”

Meanwhile, Burnley High School pupils have navigated their way to SPAR Lancashire School Games The winning team inclusive orienteering to seal their place at this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals.

The team competed against four schools from the borough in the inclusive orienteering. event and mapped out their way to victory.

Helen Tyson, Burnley school games organiser, said: “The event was held at the beautiful Towneley Park and despite the dreary weather, the pupils navigated their way around the course, locating ten control points in just 20 minutes.

“I would like to congratulate all the pupils who took part in the orienteering challenge, the level of team work on the day was fantastic to see and you should be extremely proud of your achievements.”

And Stubbins Primary School will be flying the flag for Rossendale after winning the borough high five netball competition.

Stubbins beat Haslingden Primary in the final with Edenfield beating Waterfoot for third place.

School Games Organiser for Rossendale, Nathan Bibby said “It’s great to see so many schools taking part in the mixed competition, which has helped to showcase the skills required for netball. Stubbins worked well together as a squad and it’s a great achievement to take victory from so many strong teams.

“I would like to thank all schools that attended and a special mention to Haslingden High School’s sport leaders who officiated all of the games.”

The event is organised by Lancashire Sport Partnership and is implemented by the county’s school games organisers. It is sponsored by James Hall & Company Ltd, the SPAR distributors for the North of England.

The SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool on June 30.
