THE National Schools Biathlon Championships 2015 were held at the Olympic park in London on March 28 and 29.

The boys who made up the Clitheroe Royal Grammar School U14 age group were Jack Stanley (year 9), Harvey Griffin (year 8) and Ben Turland (year 8).

They competed on the Sunday with their 100m swim the first event.

They all produced fantastic swims, with Jack recording 1:00.21, Harvey 1:01.10 and Ben a fantastic 0:59.94. After these swims the boys were all in a great position to do well both as a team and individually.

The 1,600-metre run was next with Ben competing in an early heat. He won in a time of 5:40.44.

Jack and Harvey were in the last heat and both produced outstanding runs with Harvey finishing first in a time of 5:15.27, and Jack second with a time of 5:17.01.

In the final standings, Harvey took the bronze medal and Jack the silver.

Ben finished in fifth position and with the combined totals of the boys scores they finished with a team score of 7057 points, winning the gold medal. Eliot Norman (a Ribblesdale pupil) was also competing in the U14 age group and he finished in seventh overall, A number of other athletes were competing from local schools. Josh Lambert (St Augustine’s) finished ninth in the under 16 boys with the fastest swim time. Blythe Fourie (St Augustine’s) finished fifth in the girls under 15. Joseph Kenny (CRGS) finished 15th in the under 15 boys, Alasdair Moir (CRGS) finished 45th in the under 13 boys, Tom Entwistle (CRGS) was 16th in the under 16 boys, Harry Wood (CRGS) came 12th in the under 12 boys, Hannah Procter (CRGS) came 43rd in the under 15 girls and Alice Entwistle (Bowland) came 68th in the under 13 girls.
