HASLINGDEN St Mary’s returned to Division One as champions after a thumping 4-1 win over title-rivals Ladybridge.

The league’s vice-chairman Andy Hosker was on hand to present the Challenge Cup to the Division Two winners at Townsend Street.

Hot shots Matt Martindale, Scott Wylie and Darrell Holland kick-started the celebrations as Hassy cruised past Ladybridge, who also gained promotion despite suffering defeat after clinching the runners-up berth.

Longridge Town were looking for a quick boost after their midweek defeat at Burnley United, but Lee Ashcroft’s side saw a Heath Ainscow double deny them at Chipping Road as Eagley snatched the points.

And Premier League champions Charnock Richard continued their victory roll, crushing Crooklands Casuals 3-0 to continue their fine season.

It was another grim weekend for Todmorden Borough in Division Two, who went down 2-1 at home to Walney Island, despite James Hardman’s goal.

In the same league, Milnthorpe Corinthians re-wrote the record books, thrashing Cumbrian rivals Millom 12-1 with Adam Garnett netting five times in a sensational performance.

Luke Riley smashed a hat-trick for Burnley United in Division Two Reserves, but in the end they had to settle for a point in a 3-3 thriller against Slyne with Hest.

Mill Hill St Peters saw Ryan Walton, Rob Smith and Mark Scholey on the mark against Burscough Richmond, but they too had to share the spoils in a game that produced the same scoreline.
