TWO Bobcats’ swimmers recently took part in the in the British Para-Swimming International Meet at the Tollcross International Pool in Glasgow.

Katie Rilett-Young, the squad’s S6 swimmer, and Thomas Brown, an S14 swimmer aged 15 tested themselves against the best swimmers from across the globe.

Katie, 16, a student at Burnley College, competed in the Women’s Open 100m freestyle event, swimming an excellent race and achieving a one second personal best time to qualify her for the final later in the evening. Over the four days, she went on to compete in the 100m breaststroke, 50m and 400m freestyle events. And to complete her weekend she reached the final of the 400m freestyle and achieved a six second personal best in the breaststroke event.

Thomas, 15, a student at Ridgewood Community High School, Burnley competed in a number of events over the weekend - achieving personal bests times in all his events.

He competed in the Men’s Open 50m, 100m, and 200 freestyle events, the 100 breaststroke, 100m butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley events.

Both para swimmers thoroughly enjoyed the International meet and were lucky enough to join their former Bobcats team-mate Thomas Hamer (16) an S14 swimmer, who swam fantastic over the weekend breaking two British Para Records in the 50m and 200m freestyle events.

Head Coach Noel Horton said: “This was a fantastic experience again at an International event for both Katie and Thomas who did exceptionally well in all their events, and a credit to their hard work and dedication to the sport.”
