DAVID Lloyd Chorley created their own piece of history by becoming one of the few teams to win the North West Counties Squash League Division One title without losing a single game.

The all-conquering team, captained by Chris Lengthorn, completed the season with a 100 per cent record after they won all of their 16 league fixtures.

DL Chorley, who wrapped up the league title with five games remaining, completed the clean sweep thanks to 17-3 win at Heswall 1 in their final game of the season.

It was the first time David Lloyd Chorley had competed in Division One - the top flight of the NWCS League - and for Lengthorn it ended his eight-year wait for the coveted trophy.

Lengthorn, who attempted and failed to win the title with Preston Grasshoppers, Prestbury and Warrington, finally achieved his goal - and he too did it in style by winning all 16 of his matches.

He joins his sister Laura Massaro, the world number three, and her husband and coach Danny who won the title with East Lancs. They were also a part of the David Lloyd Chorley team that included professional James Earles and Isaac Rawcliffe.

“Laura and Danny have always had the bragging rights because they had already won the title with East Lancs and liked to remind me from time to time,” he said.

“But it is great to finally win the title and I am delighted it is with my home club. Winning the title is something we set out to do but to win it without losing a single game is a great effort by everyone.”

After several near misses, Lengthorn was glad to finally clinch the title - and he would have been happy to have won it in a final day decider.

“At the start of the season, I would have taken winning the title in the last game of the last match,” said Lengthorn. “But when we got to the half way stage of the season and had played everyone, we realised that winning every game was a possibility.”

In truth, David Lloyd Chorley, who won the title by a mighty 87 points, were the outstanding team in the league which including a convincing double of Bowden, the champions for the last two years.

Of the 110 games David Lloyd Chorley players played, they only lost nine times between them.

Lengthorn and Earle went through the entire campaign undefeated - as did Laura Massaro although she did not play every match due to her competition commitments.

However, despite their dominance, Lengthorn admitted the team got a bit twitching towards the end when they knew the 100 per cent winning record could be on.

“We definitely got a bid edgy,” he said. “There were one or two games when we had a scratch team out and I thought that this could be it. But we stuck to it and came through. “It is great for the club and I am delighted for all the players and to our sponsor who has shown great support to back us.”
