Greyhound Juniors U14s 6 Clitheroe Wolves U14s 1

GREYHOUND Juniors have set up a cup final showdown with newly crowned champions Wilpshire Wanderers Black after beating Clitheroe Wolves at Accrington Academy.

In what was a game played in good spirit, both teams played some attractive football despite playing in difficult windy conditions.

Early exchanges went in favour of Greyhound with some good two touch football in the 10th minute they opened their account with a well taken goal by Thomas Stamp.

The breakthrough gave Greyhound the impetus to play more football with Aaron Robinson controlling the midfield.

And he was instrumental in Greyhound’s second goal of game, playing a nice through ball to Corey Thompson out on the left who took one touch befor curling the ball in to the top left hand side corner of the Clitheroe goal to give them a two-goal cushion at half time.

Greyhound, who finished in third place in the league table, continued to dominate and the Clitheroe keeper was kept on his toes. making good saves to keep Wolves in the game.

And they got a route back in the tie when a handball by a Greyhound defender resulted in a penalty which was coolly dispatched by Joseph Bailey.

Clitheroe were now on the up and showed some spirit and played some atttractive football in an attempt to get on level terms.

But Stamp regained the initiative for Greyhound and took advantage of some slack defending to bag a brace of goals.

Alex Sloan made the game safe for Greyhound with a well taken goal which was soon followed up with Sam Pickering taking his tally to two and finished off with Sam Holly making the game over for Clitheroe.

Greyhound will now attempt to stop a Wilpshire Wanderers side who lost just once in the league from completing the double when they meet in the cup final at Clitheroe FC’s Shawbridge Ground on Saturday.
