PENDLE Phoenix took a giant stride towards securing promotion and the North Lancs Two title after completed a bonus point double over closest rivals Bury at Hodge House.

After an exciting opening 10 minutes of rugby from two talented teams, Pendle opened the scoring when Daniel Rowland crossed for the opening score of the game. withSteve Kent added the extras.

Pendle wanted to maintain the momentum and Benjamin Peverley added a second try to lead 12-0.

And following a few pick a drives, Kent sneaked through to score Pendle’s third try of the game. He failed to convert his own try but Pendle had a commanding 17-0 lead before Bury hitback with two quick penalties to make it 17-6 at the break.

Pendle used the break to regain themselves and re-focus on the game plan. The home side managed to keep Bury at bay thanks to some excellent defence from Jammal Asghar, James Finucane and Shaye McCullough. Kent then squeeze in for his second try of the game to give Pendle the bonus point.

And in the final play of the game, Shaye McCullough rounded off a fine move to score Pendle’s fourth try, converted by Rob Lawless .
