It was the team’s second successive title success after gaining promotion last season. Now they could be heading for an end of season double as they line up Blackpool in the Lancashire Cup final.

Blackburn made a lightning start, top scorer Dawid Wieczorek slamming home a short corner and then a through ball from Rob Blackburn ripped open the Lakes’ defence, and Grant guided home his first of a distinctly one-sided contest.

Blackburn looked certain to add to their two goal advantage when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Grant .

However, midfielder but Gaz Makin saw a penalty saved following a foul on Grant.

But it was just a temporary reprieve for the visitors, though, and minutes later Wieczorek smashed in a re-bound, punishing a poor clearance.

South Lakes managed to gain a brief spell of possession, but their efforts on goal were tame and Northern needed no second invitation when they were awarded their second flick of the game.

This time Makin stepped aside, and striker Grant fired into the top corner.

Northern were not finished yet, though, as the clock ticked towards half time.

This time, Makin produced a clever finish, firing under the stranded ‘keeper to give Blackburn an unassailable five goal lead at the break.

Blackburn continued their second half onslaught, and Makin was on the mark again, tucking home a crisp shot.

Blackburn were in cruise control now, and Grant completed the rout and his own hat trick with the final two goals as Northern claimed the title.

Meanwhile, Blackburn’s second string had a day to forget as they were crushed 10-0 by Springfield’s first team. Blackburn’s reserves, who lock horns with Kirkby Lonsdale this weekend, also suffered a 5-1 defeat at Carlisle.
