BURNLEY Bobcats competed at Derventio Excel Swim Squad’s February Festival Level 1 Meet held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Ten of the Bobcats competed at the highly competitive meet with swimmers chasing British Championship qualifying times and competed against swimmers from Hatfield, Aberdeen, Dumfries and Loughborough and Edinburgh Universities to name but a few.

Katie Rennolds (16) produced some excellent times over the weekend, winning a gold medal in the 800m freestyle event and reaching the finals of the 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly events after producing excellent times in the heats.

Katie also competed in the 100m butterfly and just missed out on a medal in the 400m freestyle event, touching in fourth position.

Joshua Lambert (15) swam in the 200m freestyle event and reached the finals of the 200m Individual Medley and 100m butterfly events, narrowly missing out on his 100m butterfly British Qualifying time by hundredths of a second.

William Beaven (16) won a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle final and swam in the 200m freestyle final and the 50m freestyle heats.

Ellie Taylor (15) reached the final of the 100m and 200m freestyle events, winning a bronze in the 100m freestyle and he also competed in the 50m freestyle and backstroke events.

Harry Pilkington (14) came away with a bronze in the 50m freestyle event, only narrowly missing out on his British Championship time by fractions of a second. Harry also competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle events, the 50m and 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke.

Other swimmers taking part in numerous events over the weekend were Thomas Brown (15), Kerry Holding (18), Erica Minozzi (16), William Murray (17), and Elliot Norman (13) who all put in great performances and achieved personal best times.
