DAVID Lloyd Chorley 1 moved a step closer to winning their first North West Counties League Division One title after beating one of their main rivals Bowden in convincing style.

Following their emphatic 17-5 win, the leaders now hold a mighty 46 point lead at the top of the table with just seven games remaining.

Chorley can afford to lose three of those last seven games 5-0 but captain Chris Lengthorn wants to seal it in style by winning every game.

“I have never won this league before and that is one of my main aims this year,” said Lengthorn, who took part in the National Squash Championships last week, reaching the second qualifying round.”Our lead at the top is pretty substantial and I think we can afford to lose three or four of the games 5-0 and still win the title.

“But we want to go and win it without losing a game.”

Bowden offered one of the last stumbling blocks for Chorley but they swept them aside with few problems.

Young Isaac Rawcliffe, another who was on National Championship duty last week, was up against veteran and England masters player Glen Ragou who had the experience and crafty shots, but Rawcliffe’s fitness and resilience paid off as he sealed a comfortable 3-0 win.

Guhan Senthulimar was up against Nicholas Murrills and he had to dig deep to win in four games, 11-3, 7-11, 11-8, 11-2.

Captain Lengthorn was up next against the experienced Matt Lowery, who hasn’t lost many at number three for Bowden this season.

But Lengthorn managed to keep the pace a little higher than Lowery was comfortable and after saving a game ball in the second game, went on to win 11-7, 13-11, 11-3.

Next up was an ill and groggy Danny Massaro and the under the weather Chorley number two was beaten in three games by ex pro and now head coach at Bowden Pete Billson.

However, victory was wrapped up for Chorley by number one James Earles who beat Adam Murrills 3-1 to finish in style.
