A GOAL from Josh Emmott was one of the few highlights for Lancashire Schools Under 18s as they slipped to another defeat in the Northern Counties Championship West League.

The Alder Grange High School pupil was one of two scorers for the Red Rose county but they proved to be nothing more than consolation goals as Cheshire ran out 7-2 winners.

Cheshire dominated the game from start to finish after taking the lead in the first minute through Tom Dally and could have more to show than the goals that Jonathan Jones and Adam Keeble added before the break.

Emmott, who has been selected for England trials, gave Lancashire a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back five minutes after the restart.

But that was as good as it got for the Rawtenstall teenager and his team-mates, as Lee Ludgate scored a hat-trick in the space of 25 minutes with Matthew Waters also on target as Cheshire raced to a 7-1 lead.

Lancashire added a second consolation goal in the last minute of the game through Myerscough College student Chris Clinch.

Lancashire have now played three games in the Northern Counties Championship West League - beating Greater Manchester 2-1 before losing to Merseyside by the same scoreline.

The also lost 7-2 to Cleveland in the ESFA Trophy.

Their next league fixture sees them face West Yorkshire.
