FISHER More High School demonstrated their all-round sportshall athletics abilities after running, jumping and throwing their way to victory in three out of four age groups at the Pendle Secondary Schools finals.

The Colne school completed a clean sweep in the Year Seven event then added the boys Year Eight crown as well - with Pendle Vale taking the girls crown.

Now all four teams will represent the borough in the Lancashire County Sainsbury School Games Championship to be held at Hyndburn Sports Centre on March 4.

Held over two days, the annual competition was organised by Pendle Schools Partnership who competed in a range of both track and field events.

They included the obstacle relay, two lap race, four lap race, six lap race, eight lap ‘paarlauf’ and 4x2 lap relay on the track.

In the field, it was shot putt, speed bounce, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump.

Despite Fisher More’s success in the Year Seven age category, they were pushed all the way in both events - by Pendle Vale in the boys and Park in the girls.

In the boys event, Fishermore finished with a total of 74 points - just three ahead of Pendle Vale in second place.

There was also a battle for third and fourth place with Park pipping Marsden Heights for the final ‘podium’ place.

Park finished on 56 points with Marsden Heights fourth with 51.

In the girls competition, it was Park who pushed the winners all the way. and their total of 74 points would have been good enough to have won the boys event.

However, Fisher More were in superb form and took the title with impressive haul of 79 points.

It proved to be pretty tight at the top as Pendle Vale also had a good competition, finishing with 70 points while Marsden Heights finished with 38 points.

The following day, five schools took part in the Year Eight event with Fisher More adding their previous successes by winning the boys event while Park were the girls winners.

Fisher More finished clear at the top with 77 points, 13 ahead of Pendle Vale in second with Park third with 60 points. Marsden Heights were fourth (53) and Primet fifth (47).

Park girls were the dominate force of the two days as they clocked up 86 points, well ahead of Pendle Vale (64) and Primet (63).
