LEON Fifield stole the show as rampant Blackburn cruised to another impressive victory ahead of this weekend’s mouth-watering clash with table toppers Leigh.

Fifield is the man of the moment, though, scoring four tries as Burn completely dominated proceedings at Ramsgreave Drive, where they had their first points on the board inside two minutes.

Inevitably, it was Fifield who began the rout, with Sam Morgan adding the extras. Then Craig Aikman ran through to score in the corner 90 seconds later and the writing was already on the wall for the visitors.

Heaton Moor, to their credit, fought hard to try and reduce the arrears, but then Fifield turned provider for the supporting Matt Hughes, who ran the ball under the posts.

Ten minutes later and Blackburn added to their total, with Fifield again inflicting the damage, but for once Morgan’s boot was off target. Then, just to add salt to the visitors’ wounds, Blackburn grabbed their fifth try of the contest. Sean Hall provided the offload to send Hughes in for his second score and Morgan converting as Burn coasted into a 31-3 half-time lead.

The second half continued in a similar fashion, and Fifield was again on the mark and Morgan adding the extras.

Blackburn were adding points at will now against their tiring opponents, and when the ball fell to the dangerous Hall he raced away to score under the posts.

The penalty count against Blackburn briefly stalled Burn’s charge, but then a slick move provided the ammunition for Fifield and the eighth try for the home side. The conversion was missed on this occasion but it would not be long before the home team had another chance. This time it was Jordan Pearson’s turn to find his way on to the score sheet and, after picking up the ball in the Heaton 22, he muscled his way past the back markers to score. The conversion was the final kick of the day.

Unbeaten Leigh are now just two points clear of Blackburn, and This Saturday’s head-to-head promises to be an enthralling encounter.
