VIP Snooker are seven points clear at the top of the Premier Office Supplies Division 1 after a comfortable 7-1 victory over Blackburn Golf Club A.

It was a lot closer than the score suggests with some battling performances from the golfers.

Craig Leach tried hard to hold VIP skipper Jake Fuller but Fuller pounced on a missed red and a run of 37 was enough to take the frame. Barry Pease was woefully out of sorts and barely potted a ball as Ibby Khan made it 2-0.

It was soon 3-0 thanks to a good pairs performance from Fuller and Khan and Mick Cotton put in a sterling performance before going down narrowly to Haider Ali. The next was another tough battle as young Jordan White clawed his way to victory against Chris Alker to give the Golf Club their only point of the match.

The final doubles was the Murad Iqbal show as breaks of 30 and a 41 clearance showed the youngster’s class. The last two frames were both hard battles but VIP took them thanks to wins from Iqbal and Sheddy Khan.

Second placed Longshaw B came out narrowly on top in a highly entertaining match against Fox & Hounds. Highlight of this one was the highly rated Jonny Hannan setting what is thought to be a league record of 35 points given away in foul strokes.

Longshaw got of to a great start with easy wins for Chris Lawson and Alan Heaton before Fox skipper Derek Haworth and man of the moment Simon Ashe pinched the first doubles.

Craig Steele and Ged Patton put on a terrific show in the next, Patton being the most relieved man in the room as Steele snatched defeat from victory when he potted the final pink and black only to see the white ball travel the length of the table and drop in the yellow bag.

Ashe saw his unbeaten record end when he was beaten by George Holden, while Lawson and Steele snatched a dramatic win in the pairs.

Haworth and Hannan then produced a remarkable frame that saw Haworth earn a 51 point lead through misses, with Hannan hitting almost every ball on the table.

Despite a battling 38 from Hannan it wasn’t enough and Fox were just a frame behind. The last saw a rejuvenated Gaz Hampson hold his nerve to take frame and match against Scott Morris to set things up nicely for next week’s top of the table clash at VIP.

Third placed Park crashed to their first defeat of the season against Cherry Tree. With the exception of new signing John Kenyon the whole Park team looked out of sorts.

The divisions last match was an impressive away win for Longshaw A as they took the honours at Hoddlesden Con Club, with Paul Stanhope landing the performance of the night in beating Hoddleston hot shot Jake Loftus.
