Premier Office Supplies Division 1 champions Longshaw B showed some signs of returning to form with a resounding 7-1 win over Blackburn Golf A.

It had been a wobbly start to the season for Longshaw but they managed to shake off the cobwebs and kick start their season.

Craig Steele was in awesome form as he whitewashed Golf Club youngster Dom O'Doherty and Alan Heaton took full advantage of Mick Cotton's bad running to make it 2-0.

Skipper Shaun Pendlebury replaced his usual opening pair with Gaz Hampson and Alan Heaton and the decision paid off handsomely as the two clicked to make it 3-0.

George Holden was up next and looked a little out of sorts as he went down to Pete Sagar. Read Rocket Chris Lawson was back to his imperious best as he limited Gordon Stobbart to a single point thanks to a 42 break and continued in the next pairs when a run of 65 gave Longshaw their second whitewash of the night.

Craig Leach put in a spirited performance against Jonny Hannan but it was never enough and Gaz Hampson continued his recent improvement against Golfers captain Chris Nutter. With leaders VIP not in action it was a great chance for second placed Park to cut their deficit away at Punch. The visitors got off to their now customary flying start, taking a 3-0 lead before Paul Ryder pulled one back. Steve Aspinall restored Park's 3 frame advantage in the next before Wilkins and Ryder pulled another back.Visiting skipper Mark Jennings couldn't find his rhythm against Jimmy Cummins and went down 54-36 to set the stage for a tense final frame. Ben Ryder took to the table for Punch against Park's Steve Sweeney. It was a tight one all the way through but it was Ryder who held on to end the match all square.

Longshaw's A team popped round the corner to take on Fox & Hounds and they came away with a rather fortuitous 5-3 win. Jon Gaul took the opener for the visitors against pool pal Jake O'Horo and Paul Stanhope kept it going with a good win over a bemused Ged Patton. Fox's Mick McHugh and Simon Ashe pulled one back in the pairs before Ashe continued his unbeaten run against Elliot Brattan. Fox took the lead for the first time when McHugh took care of Kev Bielby but it was all square again when Bielby and Sean Hammett took the next pairs.

Hammett put in a good performance to beat Scott Morris easily and it was down to the 2 captains to battle it out in the last. It was nip and tuck all the way between Derek Haworth and Neil Payton but it was Payton who managed to hold on and ensure victory for Longshaw.

Blackburn Mill Hill Eng. Division 2 leaders Mill Hill A expected a tough trip to the Anchor but it turned out to be anything but! The leaders had an easy 7-1 win against what looked a very good Anchor B team. Mick Bufton got the ball rolling with an easy defeat of Graham Melia and when Anchor's Gaz Hillman equalised in the next it was fair to assume we were in for a tight one. It never happened though as the visitors rattled off frame after frame. Bufton and John Ferguson made it 2-1 in the pairs before Dan Waits made it 3-1, taking Dave Houghton's unbeaten record in the process. Eamon Bufton disposed of Matt Wilson before partnering Darren Johnson to victory in the last pairs. Johnson and Ferguson took the last 2 to leave Mill Hill tied at the top with Orchard. Orchard have improved beyond all recognition this year and battled to a hard fought draw up at Rishton Golf Club.

The first 4 frames were shared before Rishton skipper Eric Whittle put the home side ahead. Whittle and partner Tony Haworth were amazed in the next pairs when Orchard's Dan Heald threw the form book out of the window and somehow conjured up a break of 56! That run, together with the visitors 17 point start was enough to level things again. Orchard skipper Paul Keryk took the next before Heald was brought back to earth with a bump, going down 44-33 to Rishton's Chris Wolfenden.

If Mill Hill A's 7-1 win over Anchor B was a surprise then the B teams 7-1 home defeat against Anchor A was equally shocking. Anchor took a 2-0 lead thanks to good wins from Dan Bernon and Bob Graves before Lol Prior and Mick Killilea took the opening pairs. Alan Ward used all his experience to put Anchor 3-1 up before Sean Bradshaw shocked Darren Heggie. Bradshaw and Graves took the pairs to make it 5-1 and the Hargreaves boys, Luke and Sean took the last 2 for a memorable win.

The Hole I'th Wall gang had a disappointing start to their season as Wilpshire, losing 7-1 at home to new boys Darwen Golf Club. Golf club skipper Ian Geogarty took the first and Tom Maudsley made it 2-0 for the visitors with a comfortable win over Gareth Pilling. Maudsley and John Haworth took the first pairs and John Burrow made it 4-0 in the next. It was soon 5 as a rejuvenated Russ Baron won well and Burrow and Dom Fitzgerald increased the lead in the last doubles. Wilpshire's only point came from new captain John Harrison who beat Fitzgerald by the narrowest of margins, 54-53. The night's final match saw Feniscowles travel to Blackburn Golf Club to take on the B team. Steve Furey got the visitors off to the perfect start with an easy dismissal of Mark Gorzella. That seemed to spur the Golfers on and they promptly took the next 6 frames in a row! Dave Stephens got things back on track with a hard fought win over Dave Sears. Paul Upton demolished Andrew Livesey and Jim Amos had an equally good win against Ami Dippollito. John Avery showed that he is almost back to his brilliant best with a convincing 62-11 win over Alan Grogan. It was Fenny's elder statesman Keith Grogan who took the visitors other point with a good win against Dave Marsden.
