Burnley Bobcats swimmer 16 year old Katie Rennolds, who is currently studying at St Christopher's 6th Form College, Accrington has recently been selected onto the ASA Beacon Programme, whose aim is to nurture the next generation of young elite athletes who have been identified as having the talent to perform at a high level.

The commitment from both Sport England and the ASA builds on the success and experiences of the previous four year cycle and is now being extended across all of the Olympic aquatic disciplines. The Beacon Programme provides extra 50m pool time to the Region's top swimmers and coaches and aims to get more young athletes into the pool whilst providing them with high quality coaching.

Katie who is delighted and thrilled to have been selected onto the programme has been a squad member at Burnley Bobcats for the past 7 years and trains with them at the St Peter's Centre approximately 7 times a week. Over the years she has competed to a very high standard and has been a National competitor on a number of occasions and has represented St Christopher's CE School at the English Schools Swimming Competition. She excels in all four swimming strokes, but her favourites are the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle events, along with the 100m and 200m butterfly.

Chairman, Tom Fenton and Assistant Coach, Matt Holden are extremely proud and pleased at Katie's success and wish her well with the programme. Matt Holden says "Katie is so dedicated to the sport, she trains extremely hard, and her selection onto the Beacon Programme is so well deserved".
