BURNLEY boxer Joe Crawford came out on top his Battle of the Roses clash with Yorkshire champion Ben Oliver at Clayton ABC's show at a packed Rosegrove Unity.

The 12-year-old from Sandygate ABC, the current North West champion, proved to be too good for the Hull Saints ABC fighter to maintain his unbeaten record this season.

Straight from the first bell, Crawford's height difference was apparent as the two youngsters went toe-to-toe. The Ighten Leigh boxer quickly grabbed control of the centre of the ring, switching his attack and connecting well with his left hooks and rear hand straight.

Oliver, a south paw, came out in the second with intent but once again the classy Crawford showed why he is so highly touted in the sport, working efficiently on the inside as well as on the back foot quashing all advances not being put off by the left-handers style.

The third and final round once again went to the St Christopher's pupil as put another dominating display on show and it was no surprise that it was his hand that was raised at the end of the contest.
