Tommy Hannan made it a hat-trick of singles titles when he won the inaugural Champion of Champions match held at Longshaw SSC. Tommy, the reigning Blackburn with Darwen Snooker League champion and Mick Hibbert Trophy winner faced son Jonny, holder of the Blackburn and Darwen Individual Snooker title.

The match got off to a tentative start with Jonny not really finding his touch whilst Tommy was content to hit and run, a couple of 20+ breaks giving him the opener by 65 – 20. Frame 2 was simply breathtaking.

Tommy broke off, replied to Jonny's safety shot and then sat down to watch as Jonny treated the small but appreciative crowd to a brilliant break of 101. It should have been a total clearance but a bigger than expected bounce whilst trying to gain position on the final red put paid to that.

Frame 3 followed pretty much the same pattern as the first, Tommy controlling things with some super safety whilst Jonny once again struggled to find his touch.

The frame eventually went to Tommy 66-36. Frame 4 saw Tommy come into his own with a fantastic run of 71. Again it should have been more but another big bounce off the same cushion ended things. Tommy didn't mind though as it gave him a 3 frames to 1 lead, needing just one more to take the title.

Frame 5 was once again all Tommy, his superior safety game putting Jonny under constant pressure. Although the youngster gave his all it was not enough and Tommy ran out an 86-37 winner to take the match 4-1 and stake a justifiable claim to being the best player in Blackburn. CIU champ Ricky Hardman will have something to say about that and arrangements are under way for the 2 to meet some time in the future.
