RIDERS young and old were out in force at the Steven Burke Sports Hub for the Cycle Sport Pendle’s Autumn Criteria.

The recently opened circuit at Swinden Playing Fields, Barrowford attracted riders of all abilities who tested out their riding skills.

The course has sweeping bends, two long straights with the finish straight designed for excellent sprint finishes – and excitment was the order of the day.

Robert Scott took first place and both primes in the RegionalB race, in a close finish with Jonny Tomes second and Nicholas Cooper third.

Robert Scott took first place in the YouthA race, with Theo Hartley second, and after camera verification by the judges a joint third for Adam Hartley and CPS’s Timothy Jones. Prime winners Robert Scott and Archie Stewart.

In the YouthB race, a bunch race from start to finish bagged a win and both primes for Alistair Leivers, with Jack Barton and Luke Cheetham close behind, closely followed by the others.

A close finish in the Youth C race with the win for Hugo Lutz-Atkinson, second place for Maisy Vasic and third place for Andrew Lemm in a sprint for the line. Prime winners Hugo Lutz-Atkinson and Maisy Vasic.

Lewis Dolan took first place in the YouthDE race, with Isaac Atkinson second and Nathan Fortune third. This race saw a large number of CSP riders new to cycle racing taking part. CSP’s Olivia Pickering was first girl. Joshua Jackson was first YouthE and fourth overall.

Rosa Martin took first place and both primes in the Youth AB girls race, with CSP YouthB rider Georgia Ashworth a well deserved second place hot on the heels of Rosa in the sprint, and Monica Dew of Sport City Velo took third place.

There were cash prizes for all except the DE race with primes points prize for each race, except the DE race.

In the senior races, there was an impressive win in the National B race by CSP rider Martin Woffindin, riding away from the bunch for the last 12 laps of the race.

The bunch some 20 seconds behind saw a sprint win finish with second overall for Zack Williamson. Prime winners Martin Woffindin and Fraser Martin. Flora Gillies came out on top in the in the Womens’ race, showing her strength to hold off Rosa Martin in a very close sprint finish – both were well away from the bunch following an attacking move a few laps before.
