Bobcats swim squad are being generously supported this year by The Society of St George, Burnley. In addition to fundraising, The Society has provided Bobcats with a trophy – The Robert Monk Memorial Cup.

The coaches have agreed with The Society of St George, Burnley that this year’s recipient is Tom Brown and the trophy was presented to Tom by head coach Michael Robinson.

Tom, 14, who attends Ridgewood School, Burnley has trained with courage, determination, and enthusiasm throughout the year and as a result his personal bests have improved rapidly and Tom for the first time this year has taken part in some major competitions as an S14 disability swimmer. Tom has competed in Regional, National and International competitions and this month took part in the three day Sainsburys 2014 School Games held in Manchester, being selected to join the Talent Inspirational Programme. Coach Michael Robinson said at the presentation “Tom puts full effort into his training and does exactly as he is asked, which is why we want to recognise him. Well done Tom, keep up the hard work and it will pay dividends”.

The Society of St George, Burnley was founded in Burnley in 1939 and has worked to support charities and good causes in the Burnley area for almost 75 years. In its early years the Society was instrumental in raising money that enabled Burnley to buy Spitfire No. R7267 for the RAF in 1941.

The Society has also supported individuals that have represented Burnley and England in international events.
