THE games are coming thick and fast in the Accrington and District Junior Boys League which has kicked off his 57th season.

With teams from under sevens to under 16s – and playing competitively from under 11s – the league is making he most of the light nights to fit in midweek fixtures as well as a full programme on Saturday morning.

Last Wednesday, there was a near full programme in the under 12s, 13s and 14s with Rishton United and Oswaldtwistle Rangers meeting for an early season derby battle at Memorial Park in the under 15s division.

And it was Rangers who got one over the near neighbours, running out 5-0 winners at the Great Harwood venue.

Both teams were in action again at the weekend and it proved to be not one to remember for each side.

Rishton, after winning on the opening day of the season, slipped to another defeat this time losing 3-1 at home to Rossendale United at Memorial Park.

Rangers, whose midweek victory over Rishton was their first game of the season, slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Fenny and Pleassy.

Rossendale United are the early season pace-setters in the age group as their victory over Rishton made it three wins out of three.

Rossendale Valley Wasps have also won three games out of three as they enjoyed a 7-3 win against Wilpshire Wanderers BLue at St Augustine’s High School.

Darwen Rangers are third after picking up the biggest win of the weekend, beating Rossendale Valley Tigers 10-0.

In the Under 14s age group, Crown Paints and Wilpshire Wanderers Black are the only two sides with a 100 per cent record.

Crown Paints won 7-0 at Clitheroe Wolves while Wanderers ran out 16-0 winners against Globe Bullough Park. Globe Bullough Park’s under 13s team have had a good start to the season, a 2-1 win over Rishton making it two wins and a draw from their opening three games.

Wilpshire Wanderers are the early pace setters in the age group as their 10-0 win at Huncoat United Black made it three out of three.

Under 12s leaders Huncoat United enjoyed a 5-3 win against Blackburn Eagles White in an eight goal thriller.
