Arguments have raged long and hard in the local clubs about who is the best snooker player in the area.

Is it Alf Bellusci, Andy Lancaster, Jonny Hannan – but thanks to one enterprising local player we are about to find out.

Local star Tommy Hannan has put together a competition involving 21 of the regions best players.

The tournament will start off as a round robin event over a number of weeks when the players will take each other on in a series of best of five matches, all being played at Longshaw Sports & Social Club.

The players will compete for points hoping to finish in the top eight and qualify for the knock out stages of the tournament.

The event seems to have caught the imagination of the players, all of them determined to come out on top. With names such as the three already mentioned along with the likes of Jonathon Wignall, Nigel Holmes and Mark Slattery taking part we are in for some quality snooker.

The tournament starts on Monday April 28 and matches take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the following 14 weeks.

The pick of the opening week’s games sees Jonny Hannan take on Mark Slattery while Alf Bellusci faces Matt Holden.

Every match night is a chance to see some fantastic games so get there early. Play starts at 7.30pm each night and further details are available at www.facebook.com/groups/273870479434871/
