Accrington and Rossendale College’s Girls Football Academy followed up their regional championship triumph back in November by winning the British Colleges Sport National 7-a-side Championship.

The Girls Academy travelled to Bath University to take part in the National Championships with a depleted squad of only 9 players to travel due to injuries and other commitments.

Manager Phil Backhouse said “Our girls demonstrated the professionalism and application which they have become known for this season and bounced back from recent results to remain unbeaten at the National Championships winning seven games and drawing only two over the two days of the competition.”

The girls who are no strangers to success demonstrated their superior dominance ending the tournament with an undefeated record to bring the title back to Lancashire.

The girls finished as the only unbeaten football side from both the men’s and women’s competitions and were cheered by all the North West teams as Stef Hardy Collected the trophy for the College.

Phil added “This is an outstanding achievement and we hope will push them on to claim the remaining available silverware this season.”
