BURNLEY Ladies Youth Football Club have another league and cup double in their sights.

The Burnley lasses already have one piece of silverware in the trophy cabinet, having collected the West Lancashire Girls Cup.

Now victory over table toppers Birkdale, in their final home game of the season, would book them a winner takes all play-off final against the Southport outfit.

“I’m so proud of the girls, they’ve achieved so much this season,” said coach Steve Bell.

“Many of the girls in the cup final team have been together since they were six at Burnley, so it is brilliant to see them improve their skills and to enjoy the game.

“We’ve achieved the double before, but winning it again would be a very special achievement for the club.”

In the Under-18 final, played at Burscough's Victoria Park, Burnley had to dig deep after their opponents, Oxford Grove, had taken an early lead.

Bryoney Bancoft levelled the tie before half-time, and then captain Sophie Greenwood and Charlotte Coates made sure as Burnley lifted the cup.

Bell, whose 16-year-old daughter Natalie was part of the cup final winning side, added: “They’re a smashing squad, they deserve all the success that comes their way.

“It would be so special to win the league, and hopefully the girls can pick up another trophy.”
