THE topsy turvy Blackburn Combination title race took another twist as top dogs Blackburn United crashed to defeat at relegation haunted Islington.
It was a massive win for battlers Islington, who have kept alive their hopes of avoiding the drop with only their fourth win of the campaign.
But it could prove a fatal blow for United's championship hopes, with the leaders having played four games more than their main rivals Rishton United, who can also boast a vastly superior goal difference.
Rishton made no mistake, cruising to a 5-0 win at Blackburn Olympic, who remain locked in the bottom three.
Rishton are certainly proving the league's great entertainers, having scored eighty goals in just sixteen league starts this term.
The fixtures between Anchor and Vauxhall Inn and Greenfield versus Clifton were postponed.
Meanwhile, The Ivy Veterans will lock horns with Whalley Range in the final of the Cotton Cup.
The Ivy Veterans brushed aside Wellington Inn 5-1 while Whalley Range edged out Greenfield 2-1.
Just one fixture went ahead in the Second Division, Worth Avenue and Alexandra Hotel drawing 3-3.
