It has been a busy few weeks for fighters from Blackburn with Darwen Police ABC.

The club’s North West regional champion Naheem Chaudhry, 17, competed in the under 57 Kg ABAE Junior Championship quarter finals against Luke McCormack – a World Championship silver medal winner and current British number one.

It was a daunting task for Naheem against the classy fighter from Birtley Boxing Academy, Tyne Tees & Wear.

But he worked hard for the contest, training two to three times a day every day.

As expected, it was a cagey start from Naheem but he grew in confidence at the end of an even first round.

The fighters were evenly matched in the second round, both scoring points with the third following in a similar fashion.

Crucially, McCormack had the better of the fourth and final round and the judges gave him the unanimous decision..

“I am very happy with Naheem’s performance,” said coach Yaqoob Hussain. “It showed he is not far from being an England boxer.”

The club’s new female member, Shelby Fielding, 18, made her debut in a tournament organised by Splash Fit ABC, Derby where she beat Gabriel Wincik Jacque after three impressive rounds.

Shelby and Bria Fielding recently attended a North of England Female squad at Warrington with GB Female Coach Amanda Groake In a tournament organised by Tuebrook ABC, Liverpool, Asad Barlas , 17 got back in his winning ways after beating Aarron McCallam from Bootle ABC on points but Moin Khan, 15, was stopped in the third round by Luis Healey from Tuebrook ABC.
