Fantastic Farakh is a Golden great
4:42pm Wednesday 23rd May 2012 in Grass Roots Awards news
FARAKH Ajaib fought back from two frames down to successfully defend his Moorhouse’s Golden Cue title at a packed Igten Leigh Social Club.
Ajaib, representing Padiham Snooker Club, was up against Low Moor’s Peter Mercer – and both produced some scintillating snooker.
The final was a two table affair with Mercer entered on his favoured small table while Ajaib represented the large table.
Mercer got off to flyer start on the small table with a break of 54 from his first visit.
And he took the opening frame after Ajaib missed a yellow.
He carried on much the same way in the second frame on the large table with a solid break of 33 – which was enough to take the frame and a somewhat surprising 2-0 lead.
But Ajaib was not prepared to give up his title without a fight and showed off his potting powers over the next four frames.
Knocks of 64 and 46 levelled the final before further breaks of 49 and 38 clinched a 4-2 victory to claim the £600 first place prize money.
Mercer picked up £250.
The final lasted a little over two hours but both players treated spectators to a display of attacking snooker from the first break to the final pot.
A raffle was held on the day which raised over £100 for Pendleside Hospice.
