A FEMALE golfer is battling back to fitness after undergoing life-saving surgery on a brain tumour.

Ladies European Tour professional Kirsty Taylor, 36, originally from Clitheroe, collapsed on a hotel room floor in Spain last month.

She was in the country playing golf with fellow tour professional Dani Masters, who discovered the Ribble Valley golfer collapsed in the room.

The pair flew back to the UK the following day and Kirsty was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She has undergone surgery on the problem and friends said she is making a good recovery.

Members of Minchinhampton Golf Club, near Stroud, Gloucestershire - which Kirsty represents - said their thoughts were with the player.

Resident golf professional Chris Steele said the news had sent shockwaves through the club.

He said: "Everyone here is wishing her a speedy recovery. When we heard what had happened it was just such a shock.

"I have spoken to her on a couple of occassions since the operation and she is doing well. She hopes to be back on the course by mid-April.

"She was out in Spain playing casual golf with a friend when she collapsed and then they found the tumour.

"She is such a popular figure at the club and everybody here just wants her to get better quickly."

The tumour meant Kirsty was unable to play in the Women's World Cup of Golf, in South Africa, last month, and her place was taken by Dani Masters.

Kirsty has been a professional since 1995 and has won once on the Ladies European Tour when she took the Wales Ladies Open crown in 2005. She has played in over 190 tournaments and had 32 top 10 finishes.

She also has affiliations to Clitheroe and York golf clubs.
