CHORLEY’S Emily Taylor followed up her capture of the Under-18s title in the Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke-play championship at Shandon Park GC, Belfast last week by heading a field of 95 at the Ricoh Women's British Open pre-qualifying competition over 18 holes at The Berkshire Golf Club.
The English girls champion, who will be 18 next month, shot a five-under-par 67 to lead the 30 qualifiers with scores of 74 or better for the Final Qualifying, also over 18 holes, on Monday, September 10 at Caldy Golf Club on the Wirral, not far away from Royal Liverpool’s Hoylake links where the Ricoh Women’s British Open will be played from September 13 to 16.
It caps a tremendous year for the former St Michael’s High School student.
Earlier this year, she won the Irish women’s open amateur stroke-play.
Taylor’s biggest victory came at Sandiway in Cheshire earlier this month when she won the English U18 title by four shots.
At The Berkshire, the England amateur international had six birdies – at the second, long third, fifth, 15th, long 16th and 18th in halves of 33 and 34 – and only one bogey, at the short 13th.
She has now been picked in a strong England line-up to compete in the World Amateur Team Champion-ships for the Espirito Santo Trophy in Turkey.
