TALENTED Nelson youngster Niall Ormerod picked up his first points in the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit in style by winning the Wilpshire Trophy.

Ormerod produced a mixed bag of birdies and bogeys as he strung together rounds of 69 and 71 for a two-over-par total to prevail by a shot from Mark Young.

And the Lancashire County champion from Longridge, who has been in impressive form all season, increased his lead in his pursuit of his fourth merit crown to 305 points.

Title holder Steve McGlynn, from Blackburn, who finished third two shots off the pace, also moved up a rung to draw level with county team-mate John Carroll.
