Townend comes third at Pleasington Putter

BROGAN Townend missed out on reclaiming the prestigious Pleasington Putter title after finishing fourth on Sunday.

The Lancashire and England golfer, who won the Putter in 2010, enjoyed the best morning round on her home course with 73, but a second round 76 meant she finished one shot behind champion Olivia Winning of Rotherham and runner-up Becky Harriers of Haverfordwest.

Winning and Welsh international Harries tied after a level par 148, but the former took the title with a birdie four at the first extra hole in sudden death play-off.

But there was success for Clitheroe’s Sophie Lamb, who took the nett aggregate prize with a five-below par score of 143.

Lamb and Elizabeth Stebbings won the team trophy for Westholme School at the Lancashire Schools Girls' Gross Trophy.

Pleasington’s Hollie Vizard defended her girls’ title.
